Me llamo Pina

The libraries in Ljubljana offer all sorts of free activities, from workshops to lectures. I attended quite many of them this autumn; some were fun while some were not interesting at all.

I took the advantage of being jobless and started to attend Spanish classes in one of the libraries. I can’t say that I will become a good speaker of Spanish at the end of spring when the beginners’ course ends but at least I can say that I did something good for myself. I am just a little bit worried that my English is starting to lose its sparkle if it ever had one (I am sorry but it seems that I will never get it how “a” and “the” articles work; be kind and put them yourselves where this is appropriate).

Próspero Año Nuevo!

Hello - when you say a and the, you mean within a sentence, correct? I mean versus in pronounciation? I think you write beautifully, don't worry about the and a. But if you ever have a question just ask, I went to school to teach Engish Literature, it just never worked out, I was too busy with three children.
Have a wonderful week.

Me alegro por ti. Español es una lengua útil, incluso si alguna vez visitó España :)

Good on you, Pina. A really constructive way to use your time. Your English always seems completely fine to me. My understanding is that 'the' is used to indicate possession - for example 'that is the house' indicates a particular house, instead of 'that is a house' which refers to no house *in particular*. Don't know if that helps? :)
