Let me sleep, please

This weekend was a relaxing one but at the same time very tiring. Together I managed to sleep about 10 hours in 3 days. This morning I wished I could stay in bed. I think that most of the people I was with this weekend, wished the same this morning.

Counting birds might be fun but it is on the long run very tiring job. Unless you completely change your way of life. This year we counted birds in the southern part of Slovenia, very close to the Croatian border. Our accommodation was located in the primary school in a beautiful town of Kostanjevica na Krki (this town is built on a small river island). I didn't take many photos as there was no time or the place was too crowded with the cars - Saturday is usually a wedding day. We went out already on Friday evening, to count the Eurasian Scops Owls. We came back at midnight and woke up again at 4:30 am. Saturday night was even shorter. But it rained in the morning, so we managed to take a nap for an hour longer. Then we went to a virgin forest (a reserve) where we almost lost ourselves. It is magnificent seeing those giant trees that were cut for money in other places. I keep wondering what we have done with our planet! It was a nice company I had, I met some new people and life seemed to slow down a bit. Which is absolutely fine with me at this moment in my life.

Today is my dad's birthday. He is 61. My mom is in Paris and won't be able to be with us today. She almost canceled her trip due to this. I completely understand her. My dad is so ill that it might be his last birthday this year. Right, it might be everyone's birthday his last but when you are so ill, you don't have much time to waste. My dad knows it and he would like to accomplish everything in this short time that is left. He forbid us to buy him any presents but I couldn't help myself when I saw a book with the poems about dad in a bookstore last week. I bought it and wrapped it together with one of his favorite sweets - almonds in white chocolate. It will be a party time this afternoon! A cake! And lots of laughter. Hopefully.
