Feathers

I do have a list of things I want to do in life, although this list was never written on paper. At least not whole of it. On this list is also writing an article about feathers that Plains Indians used for their headdresses or to embellish their outfit and things they used in everyday life. I thought this would be an easy task but now I know that it is not. As our libraries are very short with the literature on Native Americans, I browsed the Internet and found an excellent book on American Indian costume. But... still not what I really need and want if I want to write an article about feathers. Of course, Indians mostly used eagle feathers to decorate themselves and their outfit but not much is written about feathers of other birds.

So, I am still on a quest to find some more information on other feathers. It might cost me some money as I have to buy books and not just borrow them but nevertheless, I think it will be worth every cent I spend. I suppose I will need more than a year to write such article but I am sure it will be unique and interesting for the readers. And that's what it's all about, isn't it?

It sounds fascinating. I'm assuming all of the feathers were used for symbolic reasons?

I thought so too, but it seems that most had personal meaning. Obviously there wasn't any rule which feathers to wear for the whole clan/tribe. This is exactly what I miss in this book.

That surprises me - I thought feathers would be universally symbolic to the whole clan. Thanks Pina :)
