I promised to show you the presents I sewed just before holidays. Three shopping totes, a small scented bag, four felt birds for a mobile and an apron.
Sewing might be fun but I always come across a problem, which is not unsolvable, yet it makes the final product less attractive as I first imagined. This time I realized just a little bit too late that a part of a sewing needle was broken off which resulted in too many torn threads in the fabric. This is how I keep learning new things! Anyway, I was quite satisfied with the totes for my neighbors which I put, together with a packet of herb seeds, into the little boxes I made from the colorful cardboard. I tried to make bread bags but after a few days of sewing I gave up the project completely.
Now I will continue making another lace napkin. There are still some more I plan to finish before October when starts another bobbin lace course. And this year I will make more lace pendants because they really look good on Christmas three. The Swarowski crystals make them look sooo magical…

One more
I was kind of creative over the past weekend and also made another pillow cover. I have all sorts of fabric at home but at the end I decided to make it from the same fabric as before. I came across the tutorial on Design Sponge blog and I can say that sewing was much easier than before although the outer seam is visible.

You can see the difference yourselves in the photo above. I might make a couple more of those while the winter lasts. It was -14 degrees C this morning, and I find such temperatures a good excuse to stay indoors. At least for most of a day.

When life is good
Apples became an apple pie. (Thanks, Kari, again for those cute cookie cutters.)
Gray fabric turned into a lovely cat, called Cofek (he got name by his pink nose).
Fog bellow 1400 m brought me up on 2332 m high mountain. Slovenians are a nation of mountaineers, you can see that on a photo with your own eyes. It was crowded on top! The view was fantastic, we could see Grossglockner in Austria, and a sea of fog below. I enjoyed each and every moment of a day. Even that one when I was hanging above the precipice on an icy rock with fingers cold as ice.
I hope your weekend was as good as mine.

Creative
This is how I could describe this weekend - it was a creative one. I stayed at home as the weather forecast was bad, and indeed, we've had terrible weather here. Strong winds, rains, hail. I don't remember that we ever had any such storms in the past. It cooled a bit, so it was an excellent time to put my sewing machine on the desk and be creative.
For a long time I wanted to sew a little basket but I never got so far to actually making it. I had some tutorials at home but not everything at hand. I loved the baskets made by Kristel and also tutorial found on Pink Penguin blog was very helpful - at least I got the idea of how much fabric I actually need for one such basket. It was easy and it was fun. I am quite happy with the result. I am sure it was not the last basket I made.
Visiting my grandparents is always so relaxing. I think I told you that before. I drove to their ranch yesterday in the morning and spent a magnificent day with them. They talked about the old times and I took notes. It would be a pity to forget. A day before I finished a headband with a help of this tutorial. I gave it to my grandmom to keep her hair out of her eyes and sweat dripping into them while she is working in her huge garden. She loved it!
I rarely cook coffee at home, usually when the guests arrive. I have old Ikea tea cups in which I serve the coffee. They're quite big, so when I saw these little cups at our local shop, I immediately decided they have to be mine. I somehow liked them. And they went home with me.
Who's the winner in my garden? Piki, of course. Little kittens are growing fast and they will have to find new home. At least I hope they will.

She sew - birds
Inspired by these lovelies I sew a few birds. I love sewing with felt. It is just that I will have to look around the internet a bit and get myself some colorful ones as our shops have such a narrow selection of them.
I sew also a bird using this pattern but it came out looking like a pigeon (yes, I need lots of practice). I don't really like it. I think that it is good to use colorful fabric for this project.
It is very interesting that I don't really like birds in my house but I like sewing them. Perhaps I should start making cats as I have full garden of them. The old cat brought her three kittens a few days ago and they have taken over my garden completely!!!

Working weekend
Sewing and drawing
Finally I did some sewing because our 'Street day' is approaching rapidly.
I like it decorated, I like it festive. There will be around 25 people coming; at first it was meant that there will be only 6 of us.
I also made a small banner which will be hanged over the street.
Baking

I borrowed all sorts of books on Friday in our library. About cooking. To get some ideas for our feast on Saturday. I came upon a book with the recipes from the part of Slovenia where Mr Ž is from.
I baked this sort of bread several times but it never came out that good as it should had. I tried again and it didn't work out. Now, Mr Ž will ask his friend's wife for the recipe, I hope she will give it to me. It is a delicious bread, if made correctly. It is called pereci; I think that this means pretzel in Hungarian (as this is supposed to be a Hungarian sort of bread).
So, I am still deciding what sort of bread to bake for the feast. Perhaps Mr Ž will bring some from his village's bakery.
Weeding

I didn't take any photos of my garden but I spent lots of time weeding during the weekend. It is a special kind of soil where I live and the grass is growing quicker in it than my little seedlings and plants. Also animals who like to eat my salad are very active these days. It has been extremely hot and windy for this time of the year. It was 35 degrees Celsius yesterday... It is the nicest time of the year for me. This time with all kinds of fragrances in the air, colors, flowers, plants, animals... Time to wonder what kind of living creatures share this fragile Earth with us.
